Baltimore City Paper - Best MC 2011

Best MC

The Boy Blesst

The Boy Blesst doesn’t have radio play, sold-out shows, major labels knocking on his door, or any of the other status symbols that some Baltimore rappers have had and countless more have claimed to have. Quite simply, the sole reason we’re calling him the best is the only one that should matter: the music. Year after year, Blesst has dropped frighteningly consistent mixtapes and albums with knocking original production and a wealth of smooth flows and thoughtful lyrics that frequently put most of his peers to shame, the kind of intelligent street rap for which Baltimore could and should be known. Blesst recently followed up his last new full-length, 2010’s Show-N-Prove, with a two-part retrospective, Lost Art Vol. 1 and 2, that provides a handy entry point to his large vault of unreleased tracks and guest appearances on mixtapes by other artists
